The first night here in Guate, our squad had a culture and safety orientation together before we spread out throughout Guate to serve our different ministries. Wow, was this a special night.

We learned of the move of God here in Guatemala – including Guatemalans’ definition of a missionary being transformed from seeing a missionary as an American coming to help their country to actually seeing themselves as being a missionary and being trained and equipped to share the gospel.

We were encouraged to take on the posture of asking God how we can partner with Him in what He is already doing here in this country – like a flowing river already started and we ask where and how to join in… An analogy I will take with me beyond Guatemala.

Before we had arrived, the Lord was working in the hearts of my team in that we could trust, believe in, and expect His abundance, specifically in our time in Guatemala.

THEN, it happened.

The coolest natural phenomenon my eyes have ever seen!!!! No joke. I jumped up and down and screamed like my favorite team had won the super bowl. Even then, I was more in awe and excited, caught up in immense celebration that was uncontainable.

I should preface this with, we were standing on the roof of a building that was surrounded by volcanoes…

We were standing, hoping and praying to see the active volcano in the distance erupt.

NOT ONLY did it erupt…

Simultaneously, a SHOOTING STAR shot across the sky, in the direction as if it was diving into the volcano.

Talk about sweet abundance from the Lord. He gave us a double feature. This encouraged my spirit greatly.

Also, we were singing the song Way Maker. The lyrics “even when I don’t see it, you’re working, even when I don’t feel it you’re working. You never stop, you never stop working” were sung aloud just before the volcano erupted.

Just like the volcano we were praying to see erupt, it’s working and bubbling with lava on the inside whether you see it erupt or not.. God is always moving and working whether you recognize it or not. The eruptions are visible evidence that the volcano is active. But the volcano is active well before it erupts.

Thank you God for always moving and working on our behalf, for our good and your glory. In seasons where it can be hard to see you working, would I recall the active volcano I witnessed erupt with my friends. In seasons where I might forget how abundant you are, would I recall the simultaneous shooting star in the night sky just above the fiery eruption. You are abundantly kind, wise, loving, generous, sovereign, and so much more.

Ephesians 3:20

Isaiah 55:8-9

John 10:10

Psalm 145:8

His abundance for our team in Guate started with witnessing a double feature of His unique creation. It continued with the BEST ministry, where people‘s hearts turned to God, people were choosing to get baptized, we had the best host family, a translator turned friend/brother, a fundraising experience that was above and beyond our hopes to give to this ministry, and more.

He is abundant!
