Hola Amigos!

It feels impossible to put into words what we have gotten to be a part of here in Mixco, Guatemala. The last month has been jam packed with incredible kingdom-shaking impact. The leadership we are under here is next level servant-minded, meek, humble, and in-step-with-Jesus. The day to day is so in alignment with the father’s heart and so in step with Jesus’s actions. I love it here. It’s a total honor to serve the people of Mixco.

My words couldn’t measure up to paint the picture of what we do. I’ve been trying to find time these past couple weeks to write about the incredible things we are doing here in Guatemala. Time to write overlapped with good wifi connection is hard to come by (the greatest understatement I could write in these blogs). For real, I have never in my life known such unstable wifi (and that’s when I have it), so I will never again take for granted wifi that works. The amount of times I have tried to post a blog or a photo dump on Facebook and the WiFi quits on me an hour into my work is WILD. My patience has been put to the testtt lemme tell ya!

Okay back to it… our days are filled with doing things for the kingdom here that have tangible and unseen spiritual results. I’ve decided to stop trying to get my words to match the weight of the job here. Instead, I’m going to update y’all with a long, direct, simple list, because well, you deserve the update and it’d take me years to write it all in a manner it deserves.

So, here is what we have been a part of for the past month in Guatemala:

1. House visits where we deliver groceries and water filters as well as pray over, worship with, and listen to the stories of these families

Some stories include:

– A woman with 4 kids whose husband was kidnapped by gang members and returned to the family after he paid them a sum and gave them the paperwork for his house

– A woman with 3 kids whose husband was in jail and praying for him to know jesus

– A woman raising her nieces and nephews because her story was ridden with death of loved ones including her husband and recently her mother

– Families dealing with their kids heavily struggling with academics because school went online for the pandemic but they don’t have access to computers/iPads to learn

– A grandma raising her two granddaughters because their mom left them and their dad is battling alcoholism

– A woman who is a faithful leader in the community who has a broken foot from being hit by a motorcycle

 2. Make water filters that last 15 years and pack them full of food like rice, beans, flour, etc as well as a pamphlet about Jesus

3. Making 4,000+ servings of fortified rice to be distributed… then distributing a large portion of them to families during house visits and after church services

4. Discipling and leading worship for the local police departments (we are now friends with the police and wave at them when they pass by and they play the siren for us… not gonna lie it’s kinda cool)

5. Planning and hosting a women’s event where 32 women heard the gospel, heard parts of my testimony as well as another teammates of mine’s testimony, worshiped in Spanish and English and gave them flowers at the end to take home with tags on them with the words “beloved”, “worthy” and “valued” written on them in Spanish (this was such a hit our pastor has asked us to do 4 more this month for different women and girls in the community!)

6. Conduct church services each Friday night in a parking garage (we have seen the church grow each week and it is incredible. Now reaching up to 200 attendees)

7. Invite people to church services and lead worship in the Central Park

8. Conducted kids ministry in the middle of the neighborhood where 40+ kids gathered with their parents and heard the Bible story of the paralyzed man whose friends found a way to Jesus through cutting open a hole in the roof and lowering him to be healed. We also taught them a song and dance we made up called “Jesus me cuida” which translates to Jesus takes care of me. We did a skit about the power of sin and Jesus setting us free. I prayed over the group at the end and our translator translated it for the kids and THEY REPEATED MY PRAYER. It was BEAUTIFUL.

Yesterday we led another women’s event for the pastors wives here in Mixco. 20+ women were in attendance. The heart behind it is to encourage them and it was a total success! The testimonies of the women’s time at the end were incredible.

Your prayers are being answered each week in numerous ways. Please continue to pray!

I love you guys and I love doing these things. The Lord is good!

The Lord is good and He is answering prayers in the states too!! For example, one of my best friends got into medical school at Texas Tech (Hi Tenley), another one of my best friends landed a job in her dream location and moved to LA (heyyy Mallory) and my brother (Hi Ben) received a job offer that provides really well. The lord is abundant and kind. He works everywhere and in all things. Feel free to comment your prayer requests and praise reports!! There’s always more to celebrate!!!

PRAISING GOD AND INVITING YOU TO JOIN IN!

Your (very thankful for all you do) girl,

Sierra 🙂

  1. Again and again, I can not be more grateful for you to have this experience. I knew hearts would be touched all over the world because of your travels and servant-hearted leadership. On a personal note, I understand the word “anointed” now. 🙂 Love you sweetie! I hope I have the opportunity to meet your whole team one day. Hugs to all of you!

  2. Thank you, Sierra, for this wonderful update! Reading about your joyful embracing of all you are encountering has lit me up tonight. This comes to mind for you even now: it was Henry Varley, an evangelist, who said to a young D.L. Moody in 1872: “Moody, the world has yet to see what God can do with and for and through and in a man who is fully and wholly consecrated to to Him.” And it is still true in 2021! The world has YET to see… be that woman, Sierra. “God always gives His best to those who leave the choice with him” (Jim Elliot). You & your team are in my continuing prayers.
